Poems of Appreciation: Joy

Poems of Appreciation: Joy

Living as a Dutch expat in the Philippines, I’ve found renewed appreciation for all things larger than life. In this Poem of Appreciation I pay tribute to: joy.

Joy

What makes you glad, when do you rejoice?
Are you even aware, does it feel like a choice?
The emotion hits you like a tidal wave,
but you retreat back into your careless cave.

Of course, you don’t want to overthink.
Some things are better left unsaid.
You’re happy just being on the brink,
where there’s neither bliss nor dread.

Scaling a mountain or just climbing a wall. Your joy is yours, your truth is true

Is it those little moments only you observe?
Is it the anticipation of what’s around the curve?
Quickly it disappears into a quicksand swirl.
Precious moment is gone; no oyster, no pearl.

Doing it all or nothing at all.
Having a hundred friends or just a few.
Scaling a mountain or just climbing a wall.
Your joy is yours, your truth is true.

So don’t reminisce and miss out.
Be daring, be bold, and be loud.
Seek it out and simply let go.
Who am I kidding, you already know.
